Grady County Probate Court is the local office for probate of wills, appointment and removal of executors and administrators, guardianships and conservatorships for minors and incapacitated adults, audit of fiduciary returns, marriage licenses, weapons carry licenses, and miscellaneous services such as recording elected officials' oaths and bonds. The court is led by Judge Denise Maddox and uses the Grady County Courthouse address in Cairo.

Probate Court is not a branch of the Clerk of Superior Court for record-request purposes. Estate and guardianship questions should start with Probate Court. Divorce decrees, felony criminal cases, and Superior Court civil files should start with the Clerk of Superior Court. That split matters when a family record seems related to more than one event, such as death, marriage, divorce, guardianship, or child custody.

Search Grady County Probate Records

The research found two practical access paths. First, the county Probate Court page links to Georgia Probate Records, a statewide portal with tiles for estate information, recorded marriage licenses, traffic dockets, wills, guardianship petitions, marriage applications, death information, and hearings or traffic calendar tools. Second, Probate Court remains the custodian for Grady files that are not online, not searchable by the limited fields available, archived, or restricted.

The Georgia Probate Records portal is the second usable probate image assigned in the manifest.

The portal image matters because probate searches in Grady County can branch into estates, wills, guardianships, marriages, deaths, and calendar tools instead of one general case search.

1. Identify the probate case type: estate, will, guardianship, conservatorship, marriage license, weapons carry, or miscellaneous probate service.
2. Use Georgia Probate Records when the record type appears in the portal's available modules.
3. Search by the fields the portal provides, such as county, names, or date ranges where those fields appear.
4. If the file is missing, older, sealed, or unclear, contact Grady County Probate Court by phone, email, mail, or in person.
5. Ask Probate Court whether the file is public, whether a certified copy is available, and what current fee and payment rules apply.

Grady County Probate Contact

There is one Grady County Probate Court listed in the research. The South Georgia Judicial Circuit gives a Box 1 mailing style at the courthouse address, while the county Probate Court page lists the same courthouse location for visitors. License applicants should note the 4:30 p.m. cutoff, but estate and guardianship filers should still call ahead because filing requirements, notices, and hearings vary by case type.

Grady County Probate Fees

The research did not locate an official Grady County probate fee schedule for estate filings, certified copies, marriage licenses, or weapons carry licenses. The Probate Court page did publish one payment rule for passport applications: accepted forms are money orders or checks, not cash, cards, or counter checks, and each passport application requires two checks or money orders. Because that passport rule does not set estate or copy fees, Probate Court should confirm all probate record costs before filing or ordering copies.

File Grady County Probate Cases

Probate filing starts with the case type. A will probate case differs from an administration without a will, and both differ from a guardianship, conservatorship, or minor's estate. Probate Court can confirm the current forms, filing fee, notarization needs, death certificate needs, heir or beneficiary information, and whether a hearing is needed before papers are filed.
